Habits of the Mind Charleston Collegiate believes that its students should develop (and its graduates possess) the following habits of mind; these habits will enable them to become independent, inquisitive thinkers and, ultimately, lifelong learners with ownership of their education. - Each student exhibits a disposition to self-assess. To this end, a student can recognize, analyze, and make adjustments to patterns of academic and social behavior. - Each student recognizes and appreciates interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary relationships in academic work. - Each student displays a comfort with ambiguity. To this end, a student accepts that much of learning is open-ended and based upon the integration of a multitude of cultural perspectives. - Each student values sustained quiet time for reflection, reading, and study. - Each student takes responsibility for commitments, sees them through to their completion, and reacts positively to challenges and setbacks. - Each student exhibits a disposition to collaborate and to respect all members of the community. |
