Fine Arts are an integral part of daily life at Charleston Collegiate. A devoted team of professionals provide classes in the visual arts, music and theater to students in all grades. Students in the Lower School have classes in art and music weekly, and students in the Middle School are instructed in drama, art and music every week. There are opportunities to fine-tune talents through the high school choir, the band, and Studio Art classes that offer glass and metal work, jewelry making, and glass-blowing as well as the more traditional mediums. Full-scale productions of plays and musicals are presented three times a year, and a respected member of the Screen Actor’s Guild encourages impromptu “Guerilla” Theater offerings twice a month during lunch. Eighth graders take a required Media class that films and edits a weekly newsmagazine program for the school. A challenging course in film study is followed by a course in film making that allows students to produce digital films using Final Cut Pro, the same software used in Hollywood.
