Middle School Overview Charleston Collegiate recognizes that children make the transition from childhood to young adults during their years in the Middle School. Finding the balance between the demands of personal accountability and the need to have supportive, nurturing adults guide them is a task that the faculty embraces with enthusiasm and care. The academic expectations are more challenging, and there is emphasis on exposure to broader artistic, cultural and social experiences. Students enjoy an average class size of 10-12. An advisor system enables students to receive individual guidance and support, and trained professionals in the Learning Center offer support and/or accommodations for those who have unique needs. A strong tradition of community service also promotes the personal qualities that are necessary to the development of responsible citizens and effective future leaders. Mr. Hacker Burr, [E-mail] Head of Middle School Curriculum The Middle School curriculum at Charleston Collegiate expands the academic foundation established in the Lower School and builds toward the more rigorous demands of the Upper School. Students are required to take core subjects in English, mathematics, science, Spanish, and history/current events, and they are also given the opportunity to explore interests in the Arts. All students participate in Physical Education classes and community service projects.
