INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Charleston Collegiate School’s internship program provides students the opportunity to spend one full school day each week during their junior and senior years working with a professional mentor. Students identify a profession or job that interests them and network to find a working professional who is willing to mentor and allow the students to be fully engaged in a professional work environment each Wednesday throughout the school year.
As students complete their internships, they will gain an understanding of what a professional in a given field does on a day-to-day basis, they will develop knowledge and expertise specific to their internship’s workplace, they will learn what it will take to prepare for and to succeed in a given career, and they will gain insights that will help them set goals and pursue their best opportunities beyond Charleston Collegiate.
During my junior year internship in 2024-2025, I had the opportunity to work at the Cardiology Transitional Research Laboratory at the Medical University of South Carolina. In this lab, we focused on a specific aspect of heart failure and explored ways to alleviate it. My responsibilities included operating lab equipment and contributing to the research by performing RNA extraction, RNA/cDNA conversion, and data analysis. Additionally, I collaborated on a research project that confirmed fibrosis as a key factor in heart failure. Thanks to my mentors, I have learned and achieved more than I ever imagined.
