WILD WEEK IN WILDERNESS SUMMER CAMPS

We are about to kick off our 13th year of traveling to the mountains for a “Wild Week in the Wilderness”! This is a jam-packed trip of swimming, hiking, camping, sliding, laughing, playing, and exploring!! This year, we are offering five trips (four Middle School/one High School).  Join us for an experience that your child will never forget!

Middle School:

There are 13 spots on each trip. Students from other schools are also welcome to join in on the adventure. We will be camping at the North Mills River Campground in NC and at Oconee State Park in SC during the trip. We will be exploring Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Park, and Sumter National Forest. The cost for your child to attend is $650. Below, you will find what we provide for each student on the trips.

  • Transportation to and from Charleston and North Carolina
  • Camping fees, National Forest Usage Fees
  • All meals while on the trip (except two road meals at Subway)
  • Tents and cooking equipment
  • Certified CPR/First Aid instructor to accompany the group
  • Certified lifeguard for all water activities
  • Complete equipment for group games and activities
  • Two paid ice cream stops along the way 
  • At least 300 pictures and videos from the trip
  • A combination of 30 years experience in the field of Outdoor Education from the instructors
  • Voted “The best trip in the world” for the past twelve years by former campers

Dates:

June 6-10 (rising 5th - rising 6th grades). If numbers work, these will be single gender trips. Max of 13 students. Co-ed. Leaders: Mr. Haynie/Will Hutchisson (boys trip) and Mrs. Haynie and Mrs. Jackson (Ms. Bowers)  (girls trip).

June 13-17  (rising 7th- rising 8th grades) Max of 13 students. Co-ed. Leaders: Mr. Haynie/Mr. Carter and Mrs. Jackson/Will Hutchisson 

Registration will begin at 8:00 am on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 for all trips.  To reserve a spot for your child, please email Mr. Haynie at bhaynie@charlestoncollegiate.org  

Be sure to list your child’s name, current grade level, and the dates of the trip. Mr. Haynie will respond to your email to let you know the status of your request. Early requests for registration WILL NOT be accepted. Do NOT call the school to reserve a spot.

*Middle School Trips-A $350 deposit (cash/check-made out to CCS) is due Monday, January 10th, 2022. Please put your child’s name and camp dates in the Memo portion of the check. The remaining $300 (by cash/check- made out to CCS) will be due on April 1, 2022. Your deposit is non-refundable after March 15th. After May 1st, your trip is non-refundable.

Upper School: 

This trip will be co-ed and open to all rising 9th - rising 12th grade students. Students from other schools are welcome to attend. Mrs. Jackson (Ms. Bowers) and Mr. Haynie will lead this trip. 

Spend two nights in Pisgah National Forest, two nights at a TBD amazing spot somewhere in Virginia, and three nights at Adventures on the Gorge in West Virginia. Stay in cabins while in West Virginia and  have access to two swimming pools located on the rim of the New River Gorge!!!

The cost to attend is $1,200. Provided is:

  • Transportation from and returning to Charleston
  • Whitewater rafting, hiking, zip lining, paintball battles, swimming, cabins, pools/rivers/lakes          
  • All meals while on the trip (except two road meals at Subway)

COVID-19 Statement-CCS is using a variety of sources to develop strategies and determine what the final protocol will be for our trips. As we draw closer to the departure dates, we will send out information describing our plans. Those include, but are not limited to: Center for Disease Control (CDC) World Health Organization (WHO) South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) Academy of Pediatrics Charleston County City of Charleston, and American Camp Association (ACA)
